Local Oklahoma City resident receives in-kind spine care:

Daniel Hackney suffered debilitating back pain for years. In construction most of his life, the 50-year-old Del City man had degenerative disc disease that made working and getting around difficult. In fact, it affected every aspect of his life, including sleep.

Hackney didn’t have insurance and couldn’t afford treatment, so he turned to the W.O.R.K. program. Through W.O.R.K., Hackney received pain management, non-operative treatment, and out of necessity, spinal fusion surgery, all at no cost. And he received new hope in living an active lifestyle.

W.O.R.K. doctors and staff provided a total of $25,000 of in-kind services for Hackney. “The generosity has been overwhelming,” he says. “It feels like I’ve won the lottery.”

PATIENT TESTIMONIAL

This email is a testimony of my wonderful experience with the Seradge exercises.  My husband, Lynn, is a safety consultant with an insurance company, and he attended a seminar at which Dr. Seradge spoke  and showed the exercise video.  Lynn  was impressed by Dr. Seradge being a surgeon and yet utilizing exercises to avoid surgery.  My husband had several clients that he thought might benefit from the information, but he decided to bring it home to me first!

I had been experiencing some pain and a lessened range of motion in my right arm and shoulder area.  I couldn't lift my arm up even level with my shoulder, nor could I reach much above my waist in the back.  I didn't know what was causing the pain, but I hadn't made an appointment with a doctor yet.  Lynn thought it might be carpal tunnel syndrome, and we thought it might be worthy of trying these exercises for a period of time before seeing a doctor.  Since I am opposed to surgery if at all possible, I decided to begin immediately.  As suggested in the video and on the chart, I began each day with these exercises and performed them probably 4 to 8 times during the day, and then once or twice in the evening.

I wish I had kept a journal of my progress.  I can tell you that it wasn't long before I noticed a change for the better - the pain had stopped and the range of motion increased.  I would guess that the amount of time spent doing these exercises faithfully was about two years before I was nearly back to full range of motion.

Today, I still do them at least five or six times per week in the morning as a preventive measure, and sometimes more.  I would highly recommend these exercises for anyone who has experienced pain in the arm/shoulder area.  They work!!!
